Energy 4.0 - Savings Extraction Storage
Cost-efficient self-sufficiency for the water industry with HST
Reduce your energy costs, increase availability and take advantage of subsidies at the same time
The secure and cost-efficient supply of energy and, in particular, the avoidance of blackouts is one of the key challenges facing critical infrastructures today. Wastewater treatment plants with more than 10,000 PE are obliged to achieve energy neutrality in the medium term in accordance with the new municipal wastewater directive (50% by 2030; 100% by 2040).
The combination of energy saving, energy generation and energy storage is the key to achieving energy self-sufficiency. Rising energy prices are bringing the issue of water management systems to the fore. Increased cost pressure and the aim of reducing CO2 emissions require an improvement in the energy balance. Political crises are further fueling the situation. There can be no talk of electricity price stability until well after 2030.
Federal and state funding programs aim to avoid hardship situations for municipalities. It is possible to start with a subsidized energy analysis in accordance with DWA-A 216. Further funding for implementation is available. – Take your energy project into your own hands.
Fluctuations under control
Security of supply through emergency power and self-sufficient energy supply
The daily, regular fluctuations alone lead to high fluctuations in demand in all infrastructural areas. The central challenge is to regulate these fluctuations in such a way that infrastructural services are provided in accordance with standards. This functional reliability has the highest priority in water management! This means that even in the event of a power supply failure, i.e. a blackout, the continued operation of a system must be ensured.storage is required in all infrastructural areas for peak loads and emergency situations.fuel-powered emergency power generators are therefore used in many systems. Today, other forms of storage are increasingly coming to the fore that reduce CO2 emissions and use renewable forms of energy. These forms of energy are often not available when they are needed. Energy is primarily stored in batteries and will be supplemented in the medium term by gas, compressed air or hydrogen as a storage medium. If energy self-sufficiency is ensured or safe storage media for fluctuation regulation and appropriate energy management are available, this can replace the emergency power supply.
GIREA systems
Reliability instead of blackouts!
Product description
GIREA is the advanced energy system that coordinates generators, storage systems and consumers and connects the energy and water processes with each other through intelligent control. The grid, PV systems, CHP units or emergency power generators can serve as generators, for example. The storage options include batteries as short-term storage and gas, compressed air or hydrogen storage as long-term storage. The emergency power solution is a special function of GIREA that ensures a power supply in the event of grid failures. GIREA offers a reliable and efficient energy supply that is tailored to the individual needs of the customer. The system is freely scalable and can be integrated into any control system.
N-Store + N-Save = emergency power solution
The N-Save module is used to control and regulate generators such as PV systems and
CHP units in coordination with N-Store battery storage systems and emergency power generators
in order to achieve security of supply
during blackouts.
Your advantages

N-Opt ENERGY MANAGEMENT
- Intelligent control of energy flows between generators (PV, CHP, etc.), storage (battery, gas, compressed air, hydrogen) and consumers
- Various operating modes: normal, emergency, safety and surplus operation
- Use of forecast data from the weather portal
- Possibility of peak load capping

N-Sol PV GENERATOR
- Consists of modules, inverter and substructure

- Possibility to counteract shadows and soiling with optimizers
- Can be installed on roof surfaces, open spaces, facades or floating

N-Store BATTERY STORAGE

- Short-term storage for emergency power solution
- Lithium cells
- Freely scalable up to the MWh range
- Very high C-rate (enables black start)
Energy saving
The potential for energy savings in water management systems is immense. In any case, energy can be saved through the competent reorganization of processes. HST has over 40 years of experience in this field and therefore has the expertise to provide solutions in both the water and energy sectors. Since pumps are the number one energy consumers in the water industry, correct operation is essential for reducing energy consumption. The optimum operating point of a pump is rarely reached today. The IntelliPump control and regulation software automatically optimizes pump operation through dynamic speed control, improving overall efficiency and operational reliability.
Energy (recovery)
Increasing attention is being paid to the largely unused heat from wastewater from private households, public facilities and industry. “The potential of this renewable energy source is very large. In terms of supply, 10% of all buildings in Germany could be heated with wastewater heat” (DWA-M 114). The efficient PureFlux systems for wastewater heat use the high temperatures of the water and wastewater as an ideal heat source for heat pumps and are in no way inferior to geothermal energy or groundwater utilization as an alternative energy source. The heat is recovered with the aid of the heat exchangers developed in system design.PureFlux P2 tubular heat exchangers are suitable for high heat output and cascading. The heat exchanger has rinsing and CIP facilities with IntelliStream and is therefore also suitable for fatty and sieve skin-forming media. In sewage treatment plants with digestion, heat exchange between the cold raw sludge and the warm digested sludge achieves considerable savings in sludge heating.
